These are two-step activities in which children work our an answer before joining the dots in order. Introducing and strengthening the vocabulary of mathematical processes e.g. double, halve, times.
These are self-corrective activities in which children will know when they have found correct outcomes. Number problems can be modeled through the use of counters or bead frames. Patterns within patterns can be identified e.g. relationships between counting by 2, 4 and 8. Storytelling and sharing can be developed around the characters as the pictures are revealed.
The RED level has been designed for children commencing primary school. Adults are required to help with reading messages and to encourage and celebrate children’s responses. For more information about our "Rainbow" approach, click here.
